Anne Bloomberg, 81, passed away peacefully February 7, 2022.

Born May 16, 1941 in Charleston West Virginia, the birthplace of her father, the Bloomberg’s moved to Cleveland shortly thereafter and Anne called it home for most of the rest of her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Jane Bloomberg, as well as her younger sister, Joan Whitehill. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Whitehill, and her nephew and his son, Ken and Fred Sebelin.

After her graduation from Shaker High in 1959, and short stays at Ohio State University and in New York City, Anne returned to Cleveland and moved into the world of local politics, where she would remain active for the rest of her years. Working on campaigns for Cleveland politicians including Carl Stokes, George Celeste, Edward Feighan, Mike White and so many others, she was a force to be reckoned with.

She surprised everyone (her father most of all) with her move to Ohio City in 1975. She lived there for the next 25 years, renovating homes and helping lead the vitalization of the area. She remained a champion of the area and her beloved West Side Market long after she left.

Anne loved travel and movies, theatre and cards, playing golf and bingo, eating out or cooking in and hosting legendary parties. But mostly she loved all these things as ways to enjoy her time with her family and friends.

Any discussion of Anne’s life must make mention of her incredible generosity. When Anne found a cause or person to champion she was all in. She remembered everybody she met, as well as details about them that made everyone feel special, which of course to her they were. Anne lived her life with an amazing zest recognized by all who knew her. The challenges of her illness never changed that.

Her work career included time at the Ohio Welfare commission, as the self appointed “Goddess of Good Fortune” at the Ohio Lottery, and a long stint at Ameritech, all followed by years involved in the restaurant scene on the West Side.

She loved animals, especially her girls Mitzvah and Moxie, and in this vein the family asks that those who wish to honor Anne with a memorial contribution do so to their local animal rescue organization/shelter.
